Aaina, which in Urdu means mirror, celebrates artistic work of and about South Asian women. This year’s festival includes film, visual and performance art, speakers, and conversations aimed at highlighting issues relevant to South Asian women. The spotlight event of Aaina is Yoni Ki Baat, which will be directed by Uma Rao.

Aaina is produced by Tasveer, whose mission is to inspire social change through thought provoking South Asian film, art, and storytelling. We seek to engage and empower the community  through films, forums, visual art, and other performances.

Tasveer was founded in March 2002 by two South Asian women,  Farah Nousheen & Rita Meher. They both felt the need to create a platform that could dispel stereotypes of the South Asian community in the mainstream by showing meaningful films and curating thoughtful events.

“South Asia” includes India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, and Afghanistan.

The Aaina festival is produced by Tasveer, a registered 501c3 non profit organization.
